Personal Reflection: Mastery

About Me

I believe everyone needs a reason to get out of bed in the morning. As a child, I was fortunate enough to have a father that provided me with a reason every day. He would tell me, “go be a light and make a difference.” To this day, I continue to live this mantra through my enthusiastic passion for music. Throughout my life, music has been a powerful influence and has provided me with some of my most cherished memories, and I aspire to provide those same experiences to others.

In high school, I was a lead vocalist in a grunge rock band, which played many different events and opened the door to my passion for the music industry. During my undergraduate education at the University of Dayton, I was an independent music producer and performing artist, which provided me experience within recorded music, brand development and artist management. Additionally, I was an active leader in Monster Energy’s Up&Up College Music Festival, which gave me the opportunity to organize and present a total of five ticketed events, showcasing some of the best talent in electronic music around the world. Some of these names include: Elephante, NGHTMRE, Ghastly, Ekali, Subtronics, Loud Luxury and San Holo.

After completing my undergraduate education with a B.S. in Finance & Entrepreneurship, I made the decision to continue my education and advance my knowledge of the entertainment industry at Full Sail University in Orlando, Florida. Here, I plan on diving even further into the world of music, while developing a larger network within the industry. I plan on completing this program in September of 2023 with a M.S. in Entertainment Business.

Intention Statement

Over the course of the next twelve months, I will be busy completing the Entertainment Business Masters program at Full Sail University. According to Full Sail, this program will develop the skills required of me to excel and lead in the entertainment industry. While developing these skills are important towards my future success, I have other long term goals as well.

Initially when deciding to attend Full Sail's graduate program, I realized that my network within the entertainment world was lacking. At the time, I was submitting as many job applications as I could and unfortunately couldn't find the foot hold I needed to establish the career in music that I longed for. With this being said, I plan on using my time at Full Sail to bolster my professional network so that I can find the right opportunities for my future career. I plan on doing this by attending networking events on Full Sail's campus, establishing meaningful relationships with my professors and peers, and attending as many music events as possible (on campus or off). As mentioned on the first day of orientation, your network is your lifeline in the entertainment industry; therefore, I plan on acquiring the most expansive network as possible.

In addition to bolstering my professional network, I also plan on building the framework for my very own company during my time here at Full Sail. As an aspiring entrepreneur, my dream is to one day establish my own event promotion company that hosts immersive lifestyle music events. These events will consist of unique electronic music performances, immersive art installations and accompanying fashion lines that can be purchased at the event. In order to accomplish this goal, I plan on using my course work as a medium to progressively develop any "best practice" skills and acquire any necessary industry knowledge. Furthermore, I plan on using my professors' unique experience and knowledge to better develop my ideas into efficient business functions.
